Meet our Honorees
Dr. Syverson is originally from North Dakota; he graduated from the University of North Dakota and went on to graduate from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine
Grand Forks, ND. He completed his internship and residency at Pediatrics Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals, Milwaukee, WI., and finished his rheumatology fellowship at the Pediatric Rheumatology Medical College of Wisconsin,Milwaukee, WI.
“Juvenile arthritis occurs in about 1 child per 1000 in the United States and affect more children than juvenile diabetes and cystic fibrosis combined. There are many patients with juvenile arthritis in both North and South Dakota who have never had consistent access to care with a Pediatric Rheumatologist. These children are of all ages and live throughout the state facing delays in appropriate diagnosis and treatment and traveling hundreds of miles for a single clinic visit! Delays in diagnosis can lead to chronic disability and with the available therapies for inflammatory arthritis today these outcomes are not acceptable. Access to specialists also increases the education and understanding of these diseases for other medical professionals, medical students, and residents.”
He takes great pride in this honor as an avenue to educate the people of North and South
Dakota about arthritis in its many forms and to spread awareness of its growing prevalence in our society today. Currently, Dr. Syverson is working as a rheumatologist with Pediatric Rheumatology, Sanford Children’s Hospital and Clinics in both North and South Dakota.
Dr. Syverson also maintains memberships in several professional societies: American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Rheumatology, American Academy of Pediatrics, Section of Rheumatology, and Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance.
Dr. Syverson lives in Fargo, ND with his wife, Melissa and his children Isaac, age 7 and Lauren, age 5.
